Houston to Del Rio

So we're off.

This time instead of a minivan (and a dog) we have a Mazda SUV, almost new. It is very nice!

We of course have our Rand McNally road atlas, and are ready to go.

It is always hard leaving the dog, but we have good friends to take care of her while we're gone. She expressed her discontent while we were packing up, and was very upset as we walked out the door (with the inevitable return a couple of times for things we forgot). Then she really got back at us by getting into a fracas with a raccoon that first night.

We had a pretty easy drive. Our first stop was in Luling, only a couple of hours away. We stopped, of course, for the world famous City Market BBQ:

Some of the best you will ever have.

Then we had a photo op:

A few hours later we arrived in Del Rio. The AirBNB is on the Amistad Reservoir, with a nice view:

Right up to park land:

That first night we had a Mixed Parilla at Manuel's Steak House, and I can tell you this: It was delicous.
