Del Rio - Seminole Canyon Pictographs

When we decided to make Del Rio our first stop, we didn't really know that there were some amazing pictographs nearby. But Doreen was doing her research and realized that Seminole Canyon State Park has a great selection of Lower Pecos River Style pictographs. They are estimated to be about 4,000 years old. That is old.

You have to sign up for a guided tout to see them, which was OK by us.

The land is pretty barren, with these odd U-shaped canyons. I usually associate U-shaped valleys with glaciers, but these are wind carved.

Bill Worrell, one of Doreen's Mother's art teachers, has a sculpture at Park Headquarters:

These overhangs are where you find the pictographs:

Bottom of the canyon:

Hard to see, but there is a Mountain Lion track there:

Next stop, the Rio Grande.
